NTU Singapore signed an MOU with the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the largest and most prestigious research institution in Russia. NTU and RAS have several common research interests as well as complementary strengths in areas such as energy storage, photovoltaics, and organic electronics. The two institutions will also explore the joint development and commerciallisation of products. Both NTU and RAS are listed in the world's Top 10 Most Prolific Scientific Research Institutions in Semiconductors by Thomas Reuters in their State of Innocation Report 2016 released last week. The collaboration will also lead to faculty, staff and student exchanges. It will open up more opportunities to NTU students for overseas exposure in Russia, adding to the diversity of overseas education options.

NTU will be collaborating with the Lomonosov Moscow State University to promote student exchanges and research in physics and material sciences. The two universities signed an agreement at the Government Reception House in Moscow which was witnessed by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, and Mr Igor Shuvalov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia. NTU also signed an agreement with Russia's leading sports retail company Sportmaster for faculty and student exchanges and internships between NTU and universities in Russia.

NTU will be collaborating with Sorbonne Universites to promote student exchanges and research in humanities, engineering and science. The two universities signed an agreement which was witnessed by Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of Singapore, and Mr Francois Hollande, President of the French Republic.

PM Lee and Mr Tillich also witnessed the signing of three other MOUs. Nanyang Technological University (NTU) signed an agreement with Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) to strengthen collaboration and student exchange in a range of sectors, from biomedicine to environmental life sciences engineering.

Acting dean of NTU's Interdisciplinary Graduate School Bo Liedberg said both schools hope to step up student and staff exchanges, and launch a joint or dual PhD programme.

TU Dresden rector Hans Müller-Steinhagen said: "Both universities have climbed up the international rankings in recent years, and it makes sense to cooperate and discuss areas we can develop together."
